The fishing on Chieftain is primarily wreck fishing with the main species being cod, ling, pollack and coaly.
On our tackle page we advise you on an ideal set up to use. The information you see has been collected and put together by our regular anglers who have had great success and personal bests fishing this set up. The information is not aimed at telling our customers how to fish, it is aimed at advising anglers who are new to Chieftain or the type of fishing we carry out. Also we hope that our information would help anyone who is new to offshore sea angling in general.
We recommend anglers use a 30 - 50 lb class rod for the general fishing.
Any decent multiplier reel loaded with 50 lb braid is sufficient.
Level lever on a reel is not necessary.
80 lb mono body trace with...
A ripper/jigger/pirk of at least 16 oz
Double assist 6/0 to 8/0 or treble hook for ripper/jigger/pirk
2 x 12 cm muppets on 6/0 or above, set approximately 1 ft above the ripper/jigger/pirk
(Orange muppets appear to be the best colour)
Anglers hiring our equipment can expect it to be the set up outlined above.
